⁶ Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke ^(A)all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem ⁷ when the military force of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, that is, ^(B)Lachish and ^(C)Azekah, for they alone remained as ^(D)fortified cities among the cities of Judah.

⁸ The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh after King Zedekiah had ^(E)cut a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem to ^(F)proclaim ^[a]release to them:
